Guru Nami Koshirae Iaito are designed to be suitable for the daily study of iaido. We requested a reduced weight for the iaito to minimize the elbow strain common to practice, and produced a sword well-balanced to drawing and handling. Its blade has a full length bo-hi with a suguha hamon, and an artful O (long) kissaki proportioned to the blade's sugata (shape); at its base a brass, brushed habaki locks the blade in place for stable striking. Complementing the blade's construction are an iron mokko gata tsuba, fuchi, and kashira done in a Hokusai sea wave motif. The tsuka (hilt) is wrapped in a ray skin samegawa and woven silk tsuka-ito, studded with lion-shaped menuki. The iaito are intended as practice weapons only and are not suited for cutting tests or contact. Tsuka-ito are available in three different colors: black, brown, green.
