The production of each E-mudo Nami Katana is a time consuming process since each is forged in the Nihonto katana tradition by a E-mudo bladesmith. Using a Swedish powdered steel, our smith forge-folds the billet 8-10 times producing a natural hada (grain), while removing metal impurities and air. This is the traditional method used by Japanese bladesmiths that produces natural hada and swords of the quality associated with collectibles. Yaki-ire is the subsequent hardening process where the folded metal is covered in clay, leaving the cutting edge exposed before cooling to harden the edge into martensite; the clay border creates a natural gunome and notare hamon, which is later refined in the shitaji and shiage process. This katana is polished in part by machine and in part with polishing stones. Features of the E-mudo Nami Katana¤Ô¤±¤Í¤¼ koshirae are ray skin on the tsuka with a tightly-woven silk wrap (tsuka-ito) and an historical nami, stormy waves, motif.
